Minority & Women-Owned Business Enterprise
and Developer Resources
Beginning in 2011, Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. has taken a special interest in improving the relationship between local Minority and Women Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) and developers. As a development organization, we recognize the gaps in the M/WBE program as well as the local contracting process. We wish to address some of the issues causing disconnect and in doing so, help keep local jobs local.
Heart of the City has prepared a report in conjunction with our 2011 M/WBE development forum, entitled Bridging the Gap. Our goal is to set a foundation and initiative for change. We assessed the strengths and weaknesses of the NYS and Erie County processes through interviews with contractors and developers from the greater Buffalo area, as well as extensive research of M/WBE programs country-wide. Furthermore, we have provided suggestions for growth based on our findings.
If you would like to receive a digital copy of Heart of the City’s report, “Navigating the Blueprints: An Analysis of the M/WBE Program in Erie County and New York State” please send a letter of request to our office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
We sincerely thank all the individuals, businesses, and academic institutions who aided us throughout the process. We also acknowledge the support of Andrea Thomas, 2011 High Road Fellow from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
