Own a Home?

Heart of the City Neighborhoods supports homeownership as an approach to strengthen neighborhood growth and development.  Homebuyer clubs, particularly, have been initiated to alleviate the complex and rigorous process of buying a home. Clubs provide information necessary to comprehend the housing finance system and offer support and education during the procedure of buying a home. Clubs, therefore, consist of community members who share their progress and plan future goals. On March 24 at 6pm, the Niagara Branch Library will hold an informational meeting concerning the process of homeownership. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event. For additional comments or questions, please contact Casey Higgins.

hudson.jpgHudson Welcomes Weekley

When Adam Weekley arrived in Buffalo for Graduate School, he never envisioned owning a home in the queen city. After looking at numerous homes, however, Weekley chose to invest in the Lower West Side. Fast forward nine years, Adam is a respected Art Professor at Villa Maria College and a proud homeowner on eclectic Hudson Street. Heart of the City Neighborhoods sat down with Weekley this month to discuss homeownership.

Q: How did you hear about the house and what was your first impression:

A: I looked at numerous houses.  It was the first house that had everything I was looking for.

“Heart of the City Neighborhoods approaches community revitalization holistically, where bricks and mortar are essential, but not the sole solution.  In the Lower West Side of Buffalo, particularly, community gardens have unified residents, while beautifying the neighborhood,” explains Stephanie Simeon, HOCN Executive Director, when asked about partnering with Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo for a Spring Mixer.  The happy hour event will take place March 18, 5:30pm, at Just Vino on Main St.  Susannah S. Barton, new Executive Director of Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo describes, “We are very excited to kick off spring with our friends from Heart of the City Neighborhoods! We hope the event will increase the community's awareness of both organizations and allow attendees to become acquainted with our upcoming initiatives.”
